5 Billboard Taglines That Advertise Errors

5 Billboard Taglines That Advertise Errors 5 Billboard Taglines That Advertise Errors 5 Billboard Taglines That Advertise Errors By Mark Nichol I firmly prompt against utilizing boards to show you appropriate English language structure and spelling, yet you can surely utilize them to realize what not to do. Here are some agony instigating bulletin bungles: 1. â€Å"Are you in or out?† This slogan from the redo of Ocean’s Eleven won’t strike numerous individuals as incorrect, however the exclusion of a comma ruins the impact for me. Peruse with no guarantees, this sentence calls for upward affectation: Are you one of these? Yet, the emphasis should fall, and whether your voice gets immediately before your contribute falls after or you don’t really stop, a comma flags the distinction: Are you this, or would you say you are that? 2. â€Å"All day, everyday.† This blunder in an ad for a significant chain grocery store became famous online a few years prior, and the English language hasn’t had the option to shake the bug since. Make ordinary two words, and call me toward the beginning of the day. 3. â€Å"Name’s Mel-care to have a drink?† This confounded please showed up in a promotion for Tanqueray gin including an attractive lady welcoming the bulletin watcher to join her for a mixed drink. With a negligence for the visual feel of language endemic to the showcasing business, the marketing specialist baffled perusers with what had all the earmarks of being a nonsensical conclusion reference in an alcohol advertisement to a variation of Medicare known as Mel-care. By isolating Mel’s presentation from her greeting with an insignificant hyphen when a strong em run was called for (â€Å"Name’s Mel care to have a drink?†), this multimillion-dollar advertisement crusade shouted out for a pocket-change fix. The pervasive accidental utilization of hyphens instead of runs isn't right, be that as it may, practically more regrettable, it’s revolting. 4. â€Å"You give the truck. We’ll bring the barbeque.† An advertisement for a pickup truck sufficiently large to pull around an oil-barrel grill flame broil incorrectly spelled the final word. â€Å"But, Mark, we see it like that all the time!† Yes, you see it incorrectly spelled constantly. It’s a justifiable mistake, stretching out from the slang truncation BBQ, and it might wind up in the word reference sometime in the not so distant future. Be that as it may, it’s not there yet. Respect the language. 5. â€Å"Don’t gaze, you may miss your exit.† Please, a comma is too frail to even consider conveying the rhythm of this sentence. (It didn’t work in that sentence, either, did it?) There’s a positive break in the two pieces of this sentence, and the cadence shouts out for an em run or even a period after gaze. Once more, as in the first and third models, the publicist neglected to utilize the subtleties of accentuation to help transfer the longing to purchase an item or utilize a support of the consumer’s cerebrum. This message is brought to you by DailyWritingTips.com: When you look to sell, think about words as well as accentuation in the sell’s structure. Need to improve your English in a short time a day? Economics 247 Assignment 2 Version A Essay

Financial aspects 247 Assignment 2 Version A This task has a greatest aggregate of 100 checks and is worth 10% of your all out evaluation for this course. You should finish it in the wake of finishing your course work for Units 6 through 10. Answer each question obviously and briefly. 1. In impeccable rivalry, one aftereffect of the model was that there were no financial benefits over the long haul. In a restraining infrastructure, the firm regularly acquires a positive monetary benefit. Why would that be this distinction? The absence of boundaries to passage will permit contenders to enter the market unil financial benefit is zero. These organizations are value takers, and they can't influence costs in light of the fact that their interest bend is horizontal.(4 marks) 2. Expect that a solitary firm in an unadulterated serious industry has a fixed expense of $6500 and variable expenses as showed in the table beneath. a. Compute the TC, AFC, AVC, ATC, and MC sections for this firm. (5 imprints) Absolute Output TVC TC AFC AVC ATC MC 00 0 600 70,000 1000 76000 1400 81000 1800 87000 2200 90000 2600 93000 2800 96000 3000 100000 3100 110000 b. Clarify the ideas of economies and diseconomies of scale, and portray the basic reasons why both happen. (4 imprints) 3. At its present degree of creation, a benefit amplifying firm in a serious market gets $12.50 for every unit it produces, and it faces a normal all out expense of $10. At the market cost of $12.50 per unit, the firm’s minor cost bend crosses the peripheral income bend at a yield level of 1000 units. What is the firm’s current benefit? What is probably going to happen in this market and why?(4 marks) P=12.5 TR=P*Q = 12.5 * 1’000 = 12’500 TC=ATC*Q = 10 * 1’000 = 10’000 Profit=TR-TC = 12’500 †10’000 = +2’500 Benefit is sure, yet for splendidly serious markets there will be no benefits at all over the long haul, so in this business sectors new firms will enterâ market pulled in by benefits hence expanding market flexibly and diminishing balance cost till it arrives at near P=$10, therefore prompting zero monetary benefits in since quite a while ago run. For lower value this firm will be squeezed to lessen yield a piece for new P=MR=MC balance. 4. a.Why would a firm in an impeccably serious market consistently decide to set its value equivalent to the present market cost? In the event that a firm set its cost beneath the present market cost, what impact would this have available? (4 denotes) The presumptions of impeccable rivalry that issue here are that in flawless rivalry 1 each firm is so little contrasted with the market in order to have no impact on showcase value 2 everybody knows about everybody’s cost. Presently on the off chance that you set a value lower than the market, you are just slicing your nose to demonstrate hatred for your face since you would sell as much as a more significant expense. (Keep in mind, the amount you produce is dictated by your MC and the yield level you produce at is the base MC). Slicing the cost to sell all the more additionally costs more to deliver; you are more awful off. In the event that you set a cost higher than showcase, noone will purchase from you. Clarify how a firm in a serious market distinguishes the benefit boosting level of creation. When should the firm raise creation, and when should the firm lower creation? In an impeccably serious market, all organizations are thought to be little contrasted with the market. Presently the cost is set at the market level, and as a little firm you accept it as given; you couldn’t sell at a more significant expense since no one would purchase from you. Presently over the long haul, you ought to be at the base purpose of your cost bend, guaranteeing you make simply ordinary benefits. The cost is your MR and at the base purpose of your AC bend your MC cuts it: MC=MR and AC=AR. In the event that the market cost is higher than this, new contestants will sniff the open door made by excessively typical benefits and the market flexibly bend moves right/up, diminishing cost until there are not any more super ormal profitsâ to be earned. On the off chance that market cost is lower, at that point firms are making misfortunes, some exit and flexibly bend moves left driving cost up. In harmony, each firm is creating at the minmum purpose of the AC, where MC=MR=P. Thus the firm briefly raises creation when P>min AC and makes supernormal benefits until new participants drive cost down; or brings down creation incidentally when P

How do I use Punctuation on the ACT and SAT Exams Part II

How should I think about punctuation? It just seems like a series of unnecessary marks with complicated rules. College entrance tests require that you know the rules of punctuation. There’s no way around it, so let’s get right to it. How should I think about punctuation? It just seems like a series of unnecessary marks with complicated rules. Punctuation is crucial for communication. Punctuations marks act like sign posts that guide a reader through a sentence. A reader might understand every word in a sentence, but he or she needs punctuation to determine how these words fit together. We have all seen funny punctuation mistakes. Let’s say I want to tell my grandmother that it is time to eat, but I neglect my punctuation skills. So I shout, â€Å"Let’s eat Grandma!† Oh no—poor Grandma! The lack of a comma could lead to disastrous consequences. Suggesting that your family eat Grandma is no fun. It is also no fun to take the SAT or ACT and not know the differences among various types of punctuation. Below is a list of the six types of punctuation marks you are most likely to encounter in the exam. Periods Periods end sentences. Period. I am relieved that punctuation rules finally make sense to me. Semicolons Semicolons can connect two main sentences. I love dancing; I practice it every day. Be careful: the parts before and after the semicolon both need their own subject and verb. I love dancing and practice it every day. This sentence could not take a semicolon in place of the â€Å"and† since there is no subject for the second half. â€Å"Practice it every day† relies on the â€Å"I† subject and therefore cannot be separated from it. Commas Commas serve a variety of functions. If you need to make a break in a sentence but not end it, you most likely need a comma. Commas come up in the following situations: Items in a series If there are three or more items in a list, we need commas between them, including before the â€Å"and.† Last summer, I visited Alaska, British Columbia, and Washington. Between two or more adjectives when the order of the adjectives does not matter the energetic, carefree puppy OR the carefree, energetic puppy If adjectives cannot be switched, there is no comma between them ancient Roman art Around parts of the sentence that can be taken out without significantly changing the sentence’s meaning, usually when there is an appositive or aside Toledo, a city first settled centuries ago, boasts examples of many historical architectural styles. The sentence retains its meaning if we read it: Toledo boats examples of many historical architectural styles. If the aside comes at the end of the sentence, we only have room to put a comma at the beginning, since the period comes at the end. One place that boasts examples of many historical architectural styles is Toledo, a city first settled centuries ago. Some words need special attention as to whether or not they introduce material that can be safely removed from the sentence. The words who, whom, whose, which, when, where, and why are especially tricky. Sometimes, they begin descriptions that can be taken out. Other times, they introduce descriptions that are necessary for understanding the sentence. Rose had never loved the man who was now in her state room. This sentence needs more context to determine whether the clause â€Å"who was now in her state room† is necessary for knowing what man the sentence refers to. Rose looked at Cal. Rose had never loved the man, who was now in her state room. Here, it is clear that â€Å"the man† refers to Cal. Therefore, the information in the second sentence further explaining the man’s location is not necessary. Rose thought about Cal, enjoying his lavish life in first class, and Jack, hidden somewhere in the steerage rooms below deck. Rose had never loved the man who was now in her state room. In this case, the information about the man is crucial. If we stopped after Rose had never loved the man, we would have no idea which man. Does Rose love Cal or Jack? If we put a comma, we would imply that it does not matter! This example shows why it is so important to read more than the underlined portion. The sign posts that you include for punctuation show more than just the way through a sentence. They show how all of the parts within the whole passage work together. After an introductory phrase or clause After I went to the park, I had to go back to studying for the SAT. On Friday nights, I take a practice ACT test. If these phrases or clauses had come at the end of the sentence, then we would not use a comma: I had to go back to studying for the SAT after I went to the park. I take a practice ACT test on Friday nights. This rule is why we do not need commas before words like â€Å"because† or â€Å"that.† Yes, they are dependent clauses but since they are not at the beginning of the sentence, they do not need commas: I finally got the grade that I wanted to get. I never take the highway because I never have any change to pay the tolls. Colons Colons act as two types of sign posts. Some colons indicate that there is a list coming. I took three items with me: my passport, my wallet, and my airplane ticket. When a sentence is leading up to a conclusion, colons also come before the resolution of the idea. Once the dementor left, Professor Lupin knew only one thing would calm down the students: chocolate. Dashes Dashes are a strong piece of punctuation. Think about the word: when you dash off somewhere, you’re really making quite an effort. Even the way dashes look—forming a line piercing the sentence—indicate that they are acting as a sign post for something that we need to sit up and pay attention to. If you have a single dash, it acts like a strong colon. The clues all pointed in one direction—guilt. If you have a pair of dashes, they work like a strong pair of commas. The masonry—buried for centuries—crumbled when it was exposed to light. Apostrophes Apostrophes often indicate possession. That is my sister’s car. Those are my sisters’ cars. Those are the women’s cars. Apostrophes can also indicate a contraction. Don’t go! Pro tip! The words it’s and its can cause confusion. â€Å"It’s† is the contraction of â€Å"it is.† â€Å"Its† is possessive. Looking for more? Cambridge Coaching has all of your ACT and SAT test prep covered. Music Compare Contrast Essay Example For Students

Music Compare Contrast Essay Throughout history, the media has played a major role in society. Among those in society studies have proven that young people are most impacted than any other group. Having greatly influenced youths by means of music, Internet, etc. , violence has skyrocketed far beyond what it once was. Since its beginning, music has had a major impact on society. Whether the drums of African tribes signaling war or the sounds of the opera, music has always seemed to have a way of touching on issues in society. When it first emerged in sass New York, hip-hop was utilized as a form of expression for youth within the African American community. Pediatrics(2009) stated, As with popular music the perception and the effect of music-video messages are important, because research has reported that exposure to violence, sexual messages, sexual stereotypes, and use of substances of abuse in music videos might produce significant changes in behaviors and attitudes of young viewers. As the years posted and tensions worsened within the society, hip hop began to take a more lenient approach to handling situations with artists such as Ice T and groups like NNW, the genre depicted a lifestyle of gun-toting, thugs who had no respect for authority, thugs who had no respect for authority. With lyrics such as alma choke who I want choke, by NNW promoted on l do what I want do attitude with no regards towards other nor repercussions; therefore sparking violence in the minds of impressionable young people. In r ecent years, violence among young people and children has taken to a new platform. With Internet sites such as Youth and gently created World Star Hip-Hop; the Internet has become a podium for the youth of today to showcase their violent tendencies. Allowing users to upload videos of themselves and others engaging in various acts, sites such as these contain a large amount of videos depicting violent acts. In most cases, those in the video range between the ages of 13 through 21 years of age. If the videos alone were not bad enough, people leaving comments on such videos only add to the problem; ultimately leading to the acts of more violence. Young people tend to imitate what they see, and the Internet is their ultimate source for violent inspiration. If its depiction in music and on the Internet were not enough, violence has made its way into an increasingly popular field of entertainment?video games. Lieberman (2001) stated, Video games are repetitive, so children experience games thousands of times, and this may amplify the impact of these activities. Games such as Mortal Combat and Call of Duty portray violent behavior as appropriate means for defeating the bad guy. In Mortal Combat, players engage in hand to hand combat using the characters as well as weapons of their choice such as swords and knives. The thrill of the game comes in violently defeating ones opponent and emerging the dominant player. A game such as this seems to teach youth that the only way to show that they are superior is by using violent tactics to gain control and fear among others. In the same manner, Call of Duty places players in the role of military men who use weapons like hand grenades and high powered rifles to defeat opposing forces. Once again the aspect f fun comes in the form of using violent methods to overthrow the so-called bad guys. The ultimate message that games like these send is that it is okay to use The level of violence depicted has worsened since the 1980-s and 90-s. In recent years, the popularity of reality television has made the presence of violent television even more so among American households. Not only were the personal lives of everyone from the stars of Hollywood to those of average people glorified, so were the violent behaviors that they engage in. .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada , .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .postImageUrl , .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada , .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada:hover , .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada:visited , .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada:active { border:0!important; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada:active , .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u66ba53c07dbc97d5e37b8e75cf416ada:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Effect of Music in a Developing Fetus EssayBerries (1999) stated, While the causes of lenience are multi-factorial and include such variables as individual biological vulnerability; psychiatric disorder; substance abuse; and social conditions such as poverty, poor education, family psychopathology, and child mistreatment, the research literature is quite compelling in showing that among the most important variables is exposure of children to televised violence. Reality shows such as the Bad Girls Club are influencing young people to use violence as means of handling problems with others. On every episode, communication seems to take a backseat as ewers witness fight after fight amongst housemates; after all, thats what makes one bad right? Another violent reality show that is on television today would have to be real world. The real world use to be about showing how people from all over could live under one house hold. Now the real world is all about hooking up with each other or them fighting each other over nonsense. Violence is not restricted to means of reality television. Over the years, movies have begun to depict the increase in violence. Movies such as Scarce and American Gangster, although based upon the ivies of actual people, seem to give approval to violent behavior. The globalization of the gangster lifestyle places violence on a pedestal as the correct way of getting things done in an efficient manner. In a scene from the 2007 movie American Gangster starring Denned Washington ,Washington playing drug lord Frank Lucas, is seen walking up to a man in broad daylight and shooting him in the head at point blank range. Throughout the movie, he uses violence as a way to control the city of Harlem, New York; ultimately relaying the message that violence ensures power. The 983 film Scarce, famous for its violent content, relays this exact same message. With massive crowds rushing the theaters to watch these types of films, including audiences of young people, the message further engraves violence into the minds of its impressionable viewers. Regardless of the source, the media holds the key to the way that young people behave in society. The images depicted through the Internet, television, music, etc. Combined with the impressionable minds of youth often lead to violent outcomes. Such results are what we witness in society on a daily basis.

Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino Essay Example For Students

Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino Essay Steven Allan Spielberg was born on December 18, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Spielberg is probably one of the most recognized directors of our time. He is known for his top grossing films in the box office. In his role as a director (among other occupations), Spielberg has made an immense impact, has earned great respect and has a lot of influence in the film industry. His interest in directing started when Spielberg was a child. When he was a child, he would use his family’s home movie camera to record their camping trips and other family events. Some might say that he pretty much started his career as a child and this is why his films are so creative and have a lot of child-like wonder. â€Å"Spielberg began his career as a television director, admired for his understanding portrayal of human character,† (Steven Spielberg). He then turned that interest into a successful movie career, directing numerous films with A-list actors. In 1975, he obtained his first major success with a film, Jaws. Jaws earned more than one hundred million dollars at the box office and is considered a cult classic and is still popular today. We will write a custom essay on Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Spielberg later broke the Jawsbox office record with E. T. in 1983 and then again with Jurassic Park in 1993. Continuing his empire, Spielberg began his first film company Amblin Entertainment. Amblin Entertainment was named after a movie he was directing but unfortunately never finished. Through his production company he did, however, produce several movies like the Back to the Future trilogy and Who Framed Roger Rabbit, all of which were big successes. In more recent years, Spielberg has moved on to bigger projects and movies. However, not all of his successes come without controversy. It has been said that many of Steven Spielberg’s movies portray a fear of being different, starting with how he portrays other cultures. Some believe that Spielberg portrays his characters as savages performing horrible rituals, or violent gangsters like those in Indiana Jones. Many of his films involve the white American hero saving all the people who were depending on a white mentor to pass by. Many believe that the picture painted by Spielberg in these films is racist and causes negative stereotypes towards other cultures. As a result, many ethnic groups are insulted and upset. For instance, in the movie The Color Purple, many believe the film degrades the African American family and fails to show the real problems they have to face, such as the dominance of white culture and, of course, slavery. On the other side, the positive that can be taken from all the in his filmography, is the motivation one gets by identifying with the hero. The filmgoer can get an instant ego boost from the perception that one person can save the world. Of course, this is achieved through the belief that anything is possible with courage, luck, and self-sacrifice, all themes in Spielberg’s movies. Finally, as Spielberg became more and more successful, he paid it forward by donating to charities that were near and dear to his heart, making him an incredible philanthropist on top of his directing genius. Quentin Tarantino Quentin Tarantino was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 27, 1963 to Tony Tarantino, an actor and musician of Italian descent, and Connie McHugh of half-Irish and half-Cherokee. Shortly after his birth, his mother married musician Curt Zastoupil with whom Tarantino would form a strong bond. In more recent years, his films, such as Jackie Brown show a relative restraint with regard to violence and bloodshed. Leading many to suggest that Tarantino is mellowing. In addition, many believe that this mellowing shows signs of his maturing with regard to character development and his treatment of love. Where Pulp Fiction took place entirely in a mans world, Jackie Brown included a touching, unconsummated relationship between the bail bondsman and the title character. .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 , .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .postImageUrl , .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 , .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584:hover , .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584:visited , .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584:active { border:0!important; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584:active , .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584 .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4fc1ae8ca485fa944408ba72a3fd4584:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The most successful films in 2010 EssayThough Tarantino has proven less likely to exploit bloodshed or sex in his latest film, he has, as critics observe, maintained another aspect of his style: an attitude towards pop culture, including B-movies, old TV shows, and other paraphernalia of mass media, that wavers between veneration and satire. Quentin Tarantino’s films have achieved a cultural and global status and I do not think anyone is going to argue that he is not an auteur. I am more interested in examining his style and seeing how this makes him an auteur and if it has changed when he was receiving a higher budget. Bibliography: (2014). Book Editor How to Work with an Editor For the Best Result

Book Editor How to Work with an Editor For the Best Result Book Editor: How to Work with an Editor For the Best Result Choosing the right book editor means the difference between tons of book sales and 5-star reviewsand a book that flops.I dont care who you are even if youre an editor yourself you need to get your book edited. This is a non-negotiable when it comes to self-publishing.If this is your first time writing and self-publishing a book, then working with a book editor may be novel ground. (Pun intended. Hardy-har-har.)Let’s get one thing out of the way: we encourage all self-published authors to hire a book editor. Nothing will tank a book faster than a whole bunch of reviews complaining about typos.A good book editor can help turn your bookfrom a ho-hum draft into a polished manuscript. To give your book the best chance of success that you can, and get a pro to get your manuscript into tiptop shape before publication.A lot of first-time authors make the mistake of editing their book to death, never progressing far enough to finish their book and getting to the publishing phase.Othe rs think they can toss a messy draft at an editor and expect them to fix everything. There’s a happy medium between making your draft good enough for an editor- and trusting when it’s time for your editor to step in and take over. With that in mind, in this article, we help you navigate the process of getting your book edited- both by you and your editor- so you can get published faster.NOTE: We cover everything in this blog post and much more about the writing, marketing, and publishing process in our VIP Self-Publishing Program. Learn more about it hereBefore we get into our seven tips for getting your book through the editing phase, lets take a look at what an editor does and why its crucial you have one. What exactly does a book editor do?A book editor is someone who reads through your book several times, correcting for grammar, punctuation, structure, content, and more, depending on the type of editor you hire.Essentially, a book editor is there to help your book become the finalized version with the outcome being what you intended.Because lets face it, no matter how hard we try, we cant always get the book right by ourselves. We know all of the content, the message, the theme, and were far too close to the work to understand how an outsider will perceive it.An editor works as that outsider as well as someone who views it with a critical eye. They can help you alter the book so your intended purpose is fulfilled by its end. What type of edit does your book need? Not everyone will need the same type of edit because everyone has varying levels of skill. For example, someone who has a great mind for structure but lacks in the technical skills of writing will benefit more from a line edit versus a developmental edit. That being said, here at Self-Publishing School, we highly recommend all writers of all skill levels get a full edit, which often includes copy, line editing, and developmental edits.Heres a table detailing each type of edit and what th ey entail.Type of EditWhat it MeansCopy EditingIn this type of edit, the editor will correct sentence structure, inconsistencies, tense, spelling and grammar, as well as some content feedback.ProofreadingThis is what most people think of when they think "editor." This type is when your punctuation, word choice, dialogue structure, and more is corrected.Structural EditThis is where the editor organizes the structure, moves pieces around, and suggests changes based on how the information comes across in its order.Developmental EditThis type of edit is when the editor pays close attention to how each chapter builds on the previous, as well as comments and feedback on the content itself.#1 Edit Quickly If you make the mistake of editing extensively, especially while you’re still actively writing, you potentially set yourself up for a major headache, which can delay publishing your book.Look at the example of Scott Allan. Before he joined Self-Publishing School, he spent two year s working on a voluminous self-help tome. His first draft clocked in at an impressive 90,000 words. He spent months perfecting each word. In the blink of an eye, six more months had elapsed, and he had not only sucked himself into the drain of editing, he hadn’t written anything new since he became stuck in self-edit mode. For one year, he wrote (and rewrote!) the book three times. Why, you might wonder? In his words, â€Å"I suppose I didn’t know any better, first of all. That was before I learned the expression ‘Done is better than perfect.’I was under the impression that it wasn’t done until it was perfect.† Months later, he found an expensive editor to take on his book, but the author couldn’t stop tweaking the material.Tweaking lead to rewriting†¦and the book which had been so carefully drafted, then rewritten, then tweaked, never saw the light of day. The book was never actually published.Allan says, â€Å"Painful lesson lear ned: Unpublished books don’t make money!† Eventually, the author went on to write Pathways to Mastery and publish it on Amazon. Using the lessons learned during his first failed self-publishing attempt, the author spent just eight months writing and only two months editing this time.Since writing Pathways to Mastery, Allan has gone on to write and publish three more books, with a significant reduction in writing and editing time for each successive book. His latest book was in the editing phase for only three weeks.Key Takeaway: An unpublished draft won’t earn any money or build your author name. Keep it simple: Draft first, then edit quickly.#2 Accept Imperfections Letting go of perfectionism is one of the hardest things to do. It sounds doable in theory, but in practice? It’s a challenge. Many writers strive for perfection- the perfect grammar, spelling, and choice of words. Especiallywhen the story we’re putting out there is our first book, or abo ut an intensely personal topic, it ups the ante significantly. We’ve been there, and we get it.Here’s what you need to remember: Nothing in life is perfect. No person, book, nor writer. You can spend forever and your book still won’t be 100% â€Å"perfect.† The editing phase can be rough because of the personal investment and attachment we have to our books.Key Takeaway: Instead of striving for the mythical unicorn of book perfection, strive for a reality-based â€Å"as good as this book can be.†#3 Do a Quick First RevisionBefore you give your book to your editor, you want to do a read-through to catch any glaring errors.Say this with me: rip off the Band-Aid. Make your first revision fast. Here’s the best way to make that change of phase from writing to editing: when you’re done with your first draft, circle back and do a quick-and-dirty first revision. This involves a rapid read of the book, just to get a feel of what you’ve w ritten. Brace yourself. This phase might just be the most painful part of the editorial process. This is because it’s the first time you’re looking at your book with a critical eye and reviewing the results of your first draft. You need to make sure your book makes sense and that it doesn’t miss any words that would confuse a reader to the point that they don’t understand what you’re trying to say. This will reduce the back-and-forth hand-offs between you and your editor and will shorten to overall editing phase. If you notice any major problems, like plot holes or missing information, make a note of them but save these bigger edits for the next round of revisions.Your mental game needs to be strong here. You’re going to think, â€Å"I really suck. I hate writing, I hate my book, and I’d rather watch Netflix than ever look at this crap again.†The Buddha once said: â€Å"All things must pass.† Namaste, my friend. You’ ll get through this phase and eventually love yourself (and your writing!) again.Key Takeaway: Give your book the chance it deserves. Right now, it’s just you alone with your book. Make this first revision quick.#4 Read Your First Pass Out LoudDuring your first pass, it’s necessary to read your book out loud to yourself. Your ear processes words in a way that your eyes may not so this gives you sense of pacing, chapter structure, and tone. While you’re reading out loud, try to read through the eyes of a reader. Imagine what your ideal reader looks like and how they’d feel reading this. Visualize their experience with your book.During this read-through, don’t stop to make large corrections. Just use a red pen or highlighter to take notes of the obvious mistakes. Simply mark or circle these errors to come back to later.Put yourself on the clock when you do this. Time yourself for ten-twenty minutes per chapter and keep reading the whole draft through to completion.Key Takeaway: Reading out loud during your first pass can help with tone and pacing. Do this quickly, with a timer.#5 Delve Deeper With a Second PassYour next step is to go back to the beginning of the book and do a second pass. Your second revision should delve deeper. As you read, stay alert to passages that have â€Å"holes† or sections of the book which need to be filled out more.Think of the analogy of building a home: First the frame goes up, then you build the walls. Keep adding to your book until your story and message is clear. Some of us have a tendency to change our voice from one paragraph to the next.Tone shift is something that a strong editor will pick up on, but to the extent you can make things consistent, you should. As this point, your book should be more polished. This is also the stage in which you should focus on making your book stronger by getting rid of weak verbs and replacing them with stronger verbs, like in this video of a live-edit below: Your book still isn’t perfect (remember we cautioned against perfect!) but at this stage, you should have a working manuscript which should be close to publishable. Key Takeaway: Your second pass should fill in the gaps in your story or chapters, and keep tone consistent.#6 Hand Over the Reins to an EditorOne of the hardest parts of the editorial relationship is handing over your passion project to a complete stranger. You may be thinking, â€Å"What? I’m giving it to a complete stranger who doesn’t know me- and doesn’t understand the blood, sweat, and tears that went into this- just so they can mark it up and tell me about all the things I did wrong?!†There’s a reason the editor-writer relationship can feel fraught. It’s because while your book is deeply personal to you, whereas for the editor, it’s just another day at the office. Your editor’s job is to care about the flow of the book, the grammar, spelling, an d in some cases, content. They will take your draft and elevate it to a readable manuscript. Try not to take it personally or push back at their criticism. Your editor will shape your draft into a â€Å"good† book to publish. Notice the deliberate choice of words- we didn’t say perfect!A â€Å"good† book is enjoyable, useful, readable and publishable.Key Takeaway:Dont take your editors constructive criticism personally. You have the same end goal: a good book!#7 Impersonate a Certain Disney PrincessTime to just Let it Go. Send your draft off to your editor and celebrate. Put up your feet and queue up your Netflix binge. You’ve certainly earned it! By the time you’re done with your own revisions and have added and subtracted material, your editorial return time shouldn’t take more than a week- or two, max.Key Takeaway: Just get your draft into the hands of your editor! Let them worry now. You’ve done the heavy lifting. It’s easy to get bogged down in perfection, and its temptingto hold on tightly to your work.It can be a natural reaction to pouring your heart and soul into your dreams. But the quicker you can move your first draft through to the editing phase, the sooner you’ll achieve your dream of a published book.Your Next StepsWhether youre just getting ready to write or, even scarier, to edit, were here for you.Take a look at your FREE training that will give you an overview of just what you need to do to get started.

Horror story with vampire Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Horror story with vampire - Essay Example The raws looked like the jaws of a shark; only difference was that the teeth were a sheer white, and the bordering gum line had a crimson hue. â€Å"There’s no use panicking, Rob† Mike said, stepping back. â€Å"Let’s weigh our options. We can run to the car and let him chase us, or we can race to the cafeteria, grab the knives and garlic and fight him. Rob patted Mike’s hand. â€Å"We’ll fight him.† Then, he suddenly bolted towards the cafeteria. As Mike charged behind him, he heard the noise of flapping wings. He rushed into the cafe, banging the door shut behind him. Mike heard the monster’s voice even as he turned from the door, breathing heavily. It had taken the form of a bat, and swooped down from the window, towards Rob who stood in the front side. The monster regained the form of a man as it touched the ground. Jaws clenched, his lips parted to reveal the pairs of fangs in his mouth. Rob cowered, falling to a corner of the cafà ©Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s pantry, as the creature seized him by bending down. â€Å"A puncture by my fangs,† it said, â€Å"is all it will take for you to follow me like little pups.† His voice sounded as if it were coming from some deep void within earth’s womb. Fingers of his left hand, gripping Rob’s throat, tightened. The long nail of his thumb dug into his Adam’s apple, and Rob squirmed like a worm trying to extricate from the trap of a lizard’s mouth. The stench of rotten blood gushed into Mike’s face; he held his breath and struggled to break free. The more he tried the tighter the monster’s grip became. Mike had read that the vampires are affected and finally killed by sunlight. But it was a far cry; morning was several hours away and by that time the monster would have done away with both of them. What could they do? Then, suddenly, as if out of the blue, the idea struck him. Mike raised both his legs up to his waist high and threw his right leg across the kitchen sink,

Peer Evaluations in Enhancing Written and Oral Communication Essay Example for Free

Peer Evaluations in Enhancing Written and Oral Communication Essay Communicative practices such as writing and reading are important components in the facilitation of education and learning. For educators, they must realize the relative importance of these communication practices for they are vital in the enhancement of learning. One way to address this is by creating peer review mechanisms. Though such may prove to be an important component in the facilitation of education, there are cultural impediments that continue to surround the facilitation of peer evaluations. â€Å"When we deal with English-as-a-second-language students, cultural factors may influence both the operation and outcomes of peer response groups. † (Nelson, 1997, p. 78) By being constantly aware of these issues, one can create effective peer evaluation mechanism that is free from cultural bias and prejudice. A collective action and approach must be created by instructors and teachers to address such problem. â€Å"To maintain the group cohesion and harmonious interpersonal communications interpersonal relations valued by collectivist cultures, collectivists use indirect means of communicating messages that may otherwise be disruptive to the group. † (Nelson, 1997, p. 82) Thus, giving of vital information is an important tool and component in the overall facilitation of peer evaluations in enhancing communication practices. â€Å"By being informed of cultural differences in communication, they may be better able to interpret the feedback they receive from the English-as-the-second-language students and also better able to provide these students with effective feedback. † (Nelson, 1997, p. 83) Enhancing the Writing Skills Effectiveness in writing is one facet that students must acquire in school as it is vital in the overall communication process not only in the educational sector but in different aspects of society. By enhancing such skills, an international student can be fit and remained at level with native speakers of the language. The main barrier and impediment in such scenario is the lack of expertise in the local and native language. Different perspective of human

Motivation is a force in workers that enable them to go the extra mile in executing their official functions. As human beings are different, so are the factors that motivate them. Human idiosyncrasies and attitude would determine what motivate them. While some are motivated based on monetary incentives, other are motivated by the actualization of accomplishment they attain in their official function. It is then germane that managers know what really motivate each worker under their supervision for the organization to attain maximum effectiveness and efficiency. There are plethora theories on motivation. The Scientific school of thought of Frederick Taylor sees workers as machine that would be motivated only by monetary and economic incentives. This school of thought disregards the human relations aspect and informal networking among workers. The reward system advocated by the scientific school of thought on motivation is a piece-meal reward system. In this instance each worker are rewarded based on what he is able to produce. The Scientific school sees human being as naturally lazy who tend to devise ‘soldiering’ tactics to dodge work. Hence, close observation is advocated by this school of thought. The incentive through extra payment and reward for bonus work done is seen as the motivational factor for increasing productivity by the scientific school of thought. The Human Relations School, in an experiment in Hawthorne led by Elton Mayo, discovers those workers are really motivated by informal interrelationship at the work place. The welfares for workers would go a long way to motivate them in accomplishing more. Thus, the human relation school sees human resource as the most vital resource in the organization that should be catered for maximum productivity. Other motivational theories that stemmed out of the human relation school include Abraham Maslow’s ‘Hierarchy of need theory’, McGregor ‘X and Y theories’, Fredrick Herzberg ‘Two factors theories’, i.e. the ‘motivators’, and ‘hygiene’ factors, David McClelland ‘achievement theory, Victor Vroom’s ‘Expectancy theory, Adam’s ‘Equity theory’, etc. These theories have a meeting point, whereby they advocate that there are different levels and types of motivational factors. According to these theories when Individual workers are motivated by the right factors, they tend to put in the extra effort at ensuring they accomplish the target they have set for themselves as a way to repay the organization for meeting their needs and aspirations.
